Why cycle for Project Harar?

Project Harar is a small but ambitious international charity providing health outreach services in Ethiopia. We work in some of the most disadvantaged and hard to reach communities to provide access to treatment for infants, children and young people born with cleft lip and palate and also more complex facial disfigurements. Every year Project Harar and its extended international volunteer team who specialise in Maxcillofacial and Plastic Surgery join in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa for a surgical collaboration with Yekatit-12 government hospital. During this time people come from the most remote areas of Ethiopia with Complex and often life threatening facial disfigurements, including severe burns, large tumours and a Noma - a gangrenous infection found in Sub-Saharan Africa as a result of malnutrition. People who access this service report to us that they often experience extreme stigma in their community, bullying and if they are of school age, they often miss out on education and the chance to make friends.

By supporting Project Harar you will be ensuring that this treatment can continue to go ahead, giving infants, children and young people the chance to rejoin their communities and reach their full potential.
