Why run for Project Harar?

If you are new to the Project Harar community or simply wanted to find out more, we thought we'd give you a quick run down of what we do and why you should choose Project Harar as your charity for the London Marathon:

Project Harar is a small but ambitious international charity providing health outreach services in Ethiopia. We work in some of the most disadvantaged and hard to reach communities to provide access to treatment for infants, children and young people born with cleft lip and palate and also more complex facial disfigurements. Project Harar and its extended international volunteer team who specialise in Maxcillofacial and Plastic Surgery work with Yekatit-12 government hospital, Addis Ababa to deliver our Complex Surgical Programme. People come from the most remote areas of Ethiopia with Complex and often life threatening facial disfigurements, including severe burns, large tumours and a Noma - a gangrenous infection found in Sub-Saharan Africa as a result of malnutrition. Even when the international team cannot be there in person, we continue with remote follow up, patients requiring further care continue to be treated at Yekatit-12. People who access this service report to us that they often experience extreme stigma in their community, bullying and if they are of school age, they often miss out on education and the chance to make friends.

Booking for this event has now closed.
